Our Project Ethos
“Giving everyone the space to use their own voice, and improving how people listen”
We wanted to design a new way of communicating feelings in a way that would not involve language because that can be a barrier to connection with others. We also needed to find a topic to use and extract from to expand into an experience.
We Started To Organize Our Inital Thoughts
We broke the necessities down into categories we would want to display for our exhibition. Like sound, animation, textiles, and sculpture. All of these elements spoke to the kinds of feelings, and thoughts we wanted to portray as an experience for the viewers.
We ended up designing 4 walls that connected like an X. On one side of the walls we had a survey where people expressed how they feel currently. On the other side we had a sculptural textile piece on two panels that acted as a base for the animated visual representations of each individuals chosen answers.
We Divided These Feelings Into Categories To Make From
We went into experimentation with materials and forms of animation to put together to show the full range of each emotion, and or feeling we were trying to visualize.
-
We came up with a range of 6 emotions/feelings to work from as our theme. Isolation, Calm, Stress, Connection, Fufillment, Motivation.
-
The drawings acted as a visual liaison between the words we chose and the forms that they would become.
-
The animations were the top layer of our project. They brought the work to life and showed the emotions in an articulated way. A way that also interacted with the sculptural work.
